Slack’s, September 16

Yep, yet another gig after 8 months of comparative silence!

Eli can’t make this one, due to other commitments, so it’ll just be Rich tinkling the ivories, and myself on acoustic guitar. A bit more intimate, a little more bare-bones. It’s a new venue for us, so it’d be great if you could come out and help us make a great first impression.

Slack’s has good food, and an extensive Martini menu as well, perfect for an evening out.

I think there are 3 or 4 acts on the bill, and we’ll be playing for about 45 minutes somewhere in there. It would be great to see you there!

The return of Flickershow! Two Sunday shows

Hey gang! We’ve missed you! It’s been a busy year, but we’re back in the music-making groove with not one but two Sunday afternoon shows.

Flickershow at Pedestrian Sundays in 2008. Photo: Aaron Bentley (aaronbentley on Flickr).Sunday August 29th: This Sunday we’re performing as part of Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington Market. On the last Sunday of every month from May to October, car traffic is banned from the market. In its place are numerous artists, musicans and performers, and we’re one of them!

We’ll be sharing a stage on St. Andrew Street, just across from the Moonbean Cafe along with Laura Fernandez, Aaron Bentley, Funkenspiel, Frank Patrick and The Kindly Ones! The music starts at 1pm and rolls on into the evening. Our slot begins @ 2pm.

Sunday September 5th: At the Tranzac, with the immensely talented William and Polly. We’ve spent the last couple of rehearsals learning some of their material, and vice versa. The fruit of our efforts will be a mid-show set where we join musical forces on a profusion of Flickershow and W&P tunes. It’s like Voltron, with four-part harmonies!

Yes, it’s the long weekend, and yes, you probably have plans for that last trip to the cottage, but hey, you’ve got Monday off, right? So why not come back into the city, have a shower, and meet us at the Tranzac for a cold beer, air-conditioning, and the sweetest harmonies you’ve ever heard in your life. Suitably cultured, you can then return to the cottage for your fill of mosquito bites, suspicious looking sandwiches, and sunburn.

Hope to see you there!

Drawing A Blank – September 16

Cover of 'Drawing A Blank'The hour of victory is at hand, and the minute-hand of accomplishment has stopped permanently over the numerals of gratuitous self-promotion! Yes, that’s right! The CD that looked like it might never see the light of day has finally shambled into the aforesaid light of day, rubbing both eyes and blinking furiously!

Produced by Don Kerr, our debut LP Drawing A Blank begins with a sting, and ends with a warm, soft shimmer. A labour of love recorded sporadically over the course of two years, this eclectic disc offers a little of everything from simple country ballads, to grand orchestral gestures. Clever wordplay and close harmonies abound, along with plenty of hooky melodies.

Naturally, an event of this magnitude requires a party, and we’ve planned one for Wednesday, September 16th at that venerable resto-pub-bar C’est What. Opening for us will be William & Polly, serving up some of their particular brand of haunting, backwoods-tinged, bleach-bone flavoured folk-pop.

We really hope you can be there to celebrate with us. If not, don’t worry! The CD will be available for sale through our website following the gig, both as a mail order, and as a digital release.

Eight encore

Saturday June 27th, Flickershow returns to the stage @ Eight Wine Bar for an evening of acoustic musings on the cusp of releasing their first full length album “Drawing a Blank”.

Yes, “Chinese Democracy” has been avoided, and the disc is finally on the way to the manufacturer—becoming more of a “Buddhist Meat Tree Conspiracy”, or a “Phallic Fallacy”, or something.

Exciting news!  See us live, before we become recorded! And watch this space in July for previews and news of our CD release!

Acoustic at Eight

The album is almost finished, and Flickershow’s first gig of the year is at Eight Wine Bar on Colborne Street! Eli and I will be an acoustic duo for the evening—initmate, and interactive. (Did I just say that? Ugh!) Come on out!

Looking forward to seeing you!
